At Diversey Care, we know the first steps in your therapy career are the most important. That’s why our 12-month Early Career Program is designed to provide you with the support, supervision, and real-world experience you need to grow into a confident, capable therapist. Whether you’re an occupational therapist or speech pathologist, you’ll be surrounded by a passionate team, guided by experienced mentors, and offered a clear pathway to a fulfilling and long-term career. This isn’t just your first job—it’s the beginning of something bigger.

Start Slow, Grow Strong

We understand that starting your career is a big step, which is why we gradually increase your caseload in the first 6 months. This approach allows you to build confidence and competence at a pace that supports long-term success.

Shadow and Learn Across Settings

From day one, you’ll be immersed in a comprehensive orientation that includes shadowing experienced therapists in a variety of settings and with diverse client presentations.

Supervision That Supports You

You’ll receive weekly one-on-one supervision from a team leader in your discipline, plus access to expert-led group clinical supervision. In addition, graduates receive a dedicated hour each week of graduate-only supervision to discuss caseload-specific questions in a safe, collaborative space.

Our graduate program is designed and delivered by our dedicated Graduate Program Officer—someone who truly understands what it’s like to start out, and who brings lived experience and tailored support into every training session.

You have a current driver’s licence and reliable vehicle, and are willing to travel up to 25km from Glen Waverley for client visits

What to Expect When You Start as an Early Career Therapist at Diversey Care

Your journey with Diversey Care starts with strong foundations and continuous support. Our structured Early Career Program ensures that you feel confident, valued, and empowered every step of the way.

Orientation (Week 1–2)

Welcome to the team! This is where you’ll get everything you need to start your journey strong:

Receive key policies and procedures to help you succeed in your role
Be given your own “Handy Notes” – your personal reference guide with essential contacts and internal processes
Meet your supervisor, clinical buddy, and other friendly faces from your team
Complete your Workplace Health & Safety and operational inductions
Join our NDIS Essentials Crash Course tailored for allied health therapists
Learn how Diversey Care maintains one of the highest client satisfaction rates in the industry, and the values that guide our work

Shadowing & Practice (Week 3–6)

This phase helps you ease into your role while being fully supported:

Shadow experienced clinicians and observe a range of client sessions across different settings
Join our weekly case conferences to learn from real cases and collaborate with peers
Access our clinical resources library—templates, training notes, assessments, and more
Begin to get to know your initial caseload with guidance and context from your supervisor
Run your first sessions with supervision and feedback, ensuring you feel confident and ready

Growth Phase (Week 6–12)

You’re now gradually building confidence and independence:

Take on more diverse cases with a focus on developing your clinical reasoning
Start learning how to conduct Functional Capacity Assessments (FCA) and NDIS reports with support
Practice goal setting with clients and develop collaborative therapy plans
Join graduate-only peer discussions to troubleshoot cases and reflect on your learning
Learn how to navigate complex client presentations with structured mentoring

Consolidation & Confidence (Month 3–6)

By this stage, you’re becoming more capable and autonomous in your role:

Independently complete FCA and other NDIS reports with confidence
Receive detailed feedback to refine your report writing and documentation skills
Begin managing a more complex caseload, with structured support still in place
Reflect on your learning progress and begin identifying areas of clinical interest
Successfully complete your 6-month probation review, celebrating your development so far

Stepping Up (Month 6–12)

Your transition from graduate to early-career professional is now underway:

Prepare to step into the role of a Grade 1 therapist with increased clinical responsibility
Choose to become a buddy for new grads—supporting someone on the same journey you just completed
Work with your supervisor to plan your clinical focus areas (e.g., early childhood, psychosocial disability, home modifications)
Set your 12-month Professional Development Plan aligned with your interests and career goals
Continue growing with ongoing mentoring, new challenges, and a supportive team beside you
