Improving Abilities, Shaping Future

Functional Capacity Assessment and Occupational Therapy for Autistic Children

Functional Capacity Assessment (FCA) for autistic children is a critical aspect of occupational therapy. This process involves collaboration with parents, teachers, and other therapists to gain insights into the child’s needs across different life scenarios, enabling the creation of personalized treatment plans.

The Importance of Functional Capacity Assessment

The FCA assessment allows occupational therapists to gain a comprehensive understanding of autistic children and develop a targeted treatment plan to meet their specific needs.

The results of this assessment not only provide guidance to the occupational therapist, but also suggest synergistic support for other professional therapists. Also, the results of the FCA assessment can provide a basis for application, review, and Funding increases for the NDIS program.

Support Provided by Occupational Therapists

Our occupational therapists are dedicated to helping autistic children improve various aspects of their abilities:

  1. Motor Skills Development: Improve large and small muscle coordination through individualized exercises such as balancing, writing, and buttoning.
  2. Daily Living Skills: Assistance with activities like dressing, eating, and personal hygiene enhances self-care abilities and independence.
  3. Social Skills Cultivation: Improving social skills, such as eye contact, communication and sharing interests through role-play, games and interactive activities.
  4. Expressive skills: Helps children express their thoughts and feelings through drawing, crafts, writing and communication aids.
  5. Emotional Regulation: Teaching self-regulation techniques, such as deep breathing, relaxation techniques, and emotional management strategies, aids in coping with excitement or anxiety.
  6. Behaviour Intervention: Work with parents and schools to develop behavioral management plans with structured activities, reward systems, and coping strategies to help manage challenging behaviors.
